Katie Anderson Interior Design Consultants is a full service design company specializing in custom interior design for luxury residences, offices and boutiques hotels. We provide guidance through the entire design process whether you are simply purchasing furniture or completely gutting and remodeling an entire building. Our Process

We begin the design process by having an initial meeting with you at the project site. This first meeting is very important as we are there to listen to your ideas and desires for your project. We need a lot of information from you; verbal descriptions of your likes and dislikes. We also need you to provide us with images that express your style and vision of what you would like your space to look & feel like; magazine pictures, websites, photographs, sketches etc. as well as neighborhood information and/or HOA rules. The more thorough you can be the better we will be able to provide a design contract that best suits your project.

After the design services contract has been agreed upon the actual design parameters are developed. The existing conditions of the space or spaces to be changed are measured and recorded and “as -built” drawing plans are made. From these plans and the initial meeting preliminary schematic design drawings are made. We usually provide 3-4 schematic designs that will be discussed at length with you. We then further modify your selection to address any physical or aesthetic or budgetary issues raised. Once you approve the design, specific merchandise will then be discussed (i.e. cabinetry, plumbing fixtures, lighting fixtures, appliances, furniture, color schemes, etc.). A “master plan” is then completed and a submittal drawing set will be finished and given to the contractor and you for all permits necessary (if required). You will then have us order for you all necessary new merchandise specified for the new plan. When you receive your permits the contractor will schedule with you to begin the installation. We will stay involved and liaison with you and your contractor to assist in the solution to any problems or on site changes that may occur.

Lighting, Color, Windows and Furnishings

Not every home needs to be remodeled to express how you live, your style, create greater comfort or even to function better. So much in an interior environment can be affected by simply changing or balancing the color, installing good lighting and the appropriate placement of quality furnishings along with window treatments.

Our Process

To ensure that we understand your needs and to be able to provide you with the most satisfying results we need a lot of information from you. We need you to provide us with verbal descriptions of your likes, dislikes and many images that express your dreams, wishes and ideals for your home. These can be in the form of magazine pictures, website links, personal photographs, art books, sketches etc. Many people do not consider installing lighting in their homes but we invite you to think about this. No matter how beautiful the color scheme, the fabrics gracing the windows or covering the furniture you won’t actually see the effect without proper lighting. Light is what expresses color and after investing in your new décor it will fall short of expectation if the room(s) are not well lit.

What We Do

We begin creating a décor plan by measuring the specified rooms of your home and from the information gathered we create a floor plan and elevation drawings. We then proceed to develop 2-4 schematic furniture, window treatment and lighting plans. We will discuss these drawings with you and make changes or modifications according to your feedback to then present the final design. From there we finalize the master plan and begin the selections of color, furnishings, fabrics, lighting, art and accessories. As we develop the plan we recommend several choices for all elements of the design but the final decision is always yours. At this stage there will be a lot of decisions you will be required to make; do you like this fabric or another for the chairs or the drapes? Do you prefer the same welt on the pillow or a contrasting fabric? Which hardware, this knob or this pull on the dresser? We will present fabrics, take you to showrooms to view and experience furnishings, as well as several color scheme options. Katie Anderson Interior Design Consultants works with the best merchandise manufacturers and artisans. The products we recommend are of the very best quality. They are not “standard” or “off-the shelf” but custom made to your specification, thereby each piece created is unique to you and your taste. For this reason it is important to have patience as it can take up to 12 weeks for a sofa to be completed, shipped and delivered. The frame may be manufactured in Japan, the fabric made in Italy which is shipped to Japan for upholstery, then the completed piece is put in a
container and shipped to the US. In the end it is always worth the wait. Product that is mass-manufactured is nothing like a custom designed, handcrafted piece of furniture that was made just for you. Access to Trade Only Home Décor

Katie Anderson Interior Design Consultants provides exclusive buying services. This service is ideal for the person who may not be interested in a full interior design service but would like help to access and purchase well made & hand crafted goods. We offer this service to assist the client in selecting and purchasing quality custom made merchandise such as furnishings, draperies/window treatments, light fixtures, art and accessories that are sold to the trade only and are not available to the public, they cannot be purchased online. We all love to look at design magazines and are sometimes interested in the product(s) featured but have no way to obtain pertinent information such as where it can be bought, lead times and pricing. As interior design professionals we have access to the trade only goods. If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area we can escort you to design showrooms and help guide you to find the perfect item(s). If you live farther away we can consult with you by phone and make orders for you direct from the manufacturer and have it shipped directly to you. You know what you like and understand the value of owning a piece of furniture that is custom made to your unique taste and style.
